Banksman Slinger Training Course

Who is this course for?

The course is designed to provide an understanding of the theory and rating of lifting slings, an overview of legislation as it applies to users and an appreciation of types of slings and how to carry out routine pre-use inspection.

Course Aims

To teach the slinger to safely sling and signal to cranes of various types to LOLER standards.

Course Agenda

To teach the basic skill requirements and associated job safety knowledge to personnel involved in slinging and lifting operations including slingers and banksmen.

Where required, to provide specific job training in both related job safety knowledge and practical skill applications relating to safe slinging and signaling procedures.

At the course end successful delegates should be able to identify, select, inspect and use slings and lifting tackle both safely and efficiently.

  • Grasp a knowledge of basic slinging methods and where to obtain information and guidance on the approved methods of slinging
  • Understand the requirements of HASAW Act 1974, PUWER 1998 and LOLER 1998
  • Become competent in carrying out pre-use inspection of lifting accessories
  • Candidates will be able to identify the hazards associated with lifting operations
  • Become competent in selecting the correct equipment and safe method of slinging for loads commonly encountered in construction
  • Become competent in planning and performing a lifting operation using safe practices as laid down in Health and Safety legislation and guidance.

Certification

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a Certificate of Training in Basic Practical Skill and Ability.
